Backpacking 2021-2022

During the 2021-2022 school year we supplied 79 bags for 103 kindergarten thru third-grade students at GLH Johnson Elementary School. Snack bags were also provided to the preschoolers at Grove Park and Northside Preschools.

St. Luke's has numerous members of their congregation who purchase the food, set-up the packing line, pack the bags and deliver them to the school on Friday.  

We at St. Luke's are blessed by being a part of this outreach ministry.  Please lift this mission and these children to God in your prayers.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN:

 St. Luke's began a weekend backpack program in January 2015 for the kindergarten students at GLH Johnson Elementary School.  This backpack contains two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners and two snacks.  Kindergarten children are at the greatest risk for food insecurity because they have not yet learned to fend for themselves.  Our hope is that these nutritional meals will meet the physical food needs of these children and help them to do better in school.
